highpass filtering

Hi,
Could somebody give me an additional explanation on parameters fmax and fmin when using highpass and lowpass filter. More precise, if one is having 30 years of daily data and would like to suppress the variability on the time scales longer than the seasonal cycle, what would be the value fmax?

Hi,
frequencies given as parameter are interpreted per year. If you want to suppress time-scales longer than the seasonal cycle, this means that you want to suppres frequencies larger than 4 per year. Thus you could use a highpass filter with fmin=4.
